Overview and your own practice environment

You know what Power Apps, Power Automate and Copilot Studio are for, and you have an environment with a first SharePoint list.

Planning to practise with the free Developer Plan? This changes from 15 Nov 2026

From 15 Nov 2026 the free Developer Plan no longer creates its own developer environment. So practise in your company's default environment or in one your IT sets up for you.

Important for your practice environment: according to Microsoft Learn, the free Power Apps Developer Plan no longer creates its own developer environment from 15 Nov 2026. Existing unmanaged developer environments are suspended from 15 Dec 2026 and deleted from 15 Jan 2027. So practise in your company's default environment or in an environment your IT sets up for you. That is enough for this path, because everything runs on SharePoint and standard connectors. Source: Microsoft Learn, retrieved 17 October 2026.

2 Practise: Create the list for equipment lending

You do the exercise on a computer. If you are reading on your phone, take your progress along.

  1. Open make.powerapps.com and check in the top right which environment you are in. Write down its name.
  2. In a SharePoint site you have access to, create a list called "Equipment loans".
  3. Columns: Title (device), "Borrowed by" (person), "From" (date), "Until" (date), "Status" (choice with Requested, On loan, Returned).
  4. Add five test entries, one of them with an "Until" date in the past.
  5. Write down in two sentences which problem in your team this list solves.
If you get stuck
  • You cannot find the column type: when you add a column it is called "Choice". Put each value on its own line.
  • You are not allowed to create a list: use the SharePoint site of a team you are a member of. In Teams you find it under "Files" and "Open in SharePoint".

Done when the list has five entries, one of them with an "Until" date in the past, and "Status" is a choice column.

What is an environment?

A container for apps, flows, agents and data with its own permissions. Every organisation has a default environment.

What is a connector?

The connection to a service such as SharePoint or Outlook. Apps and flows read and write data through it. There are standard and premium connectors.

What changes with the Developer Plan from 15 Nov 2026?

Signing up no longer creates a developer environment. New unmanaged developer environments can no longer be created.
