Power Apps: your first app from your list
You build a canvas app from the SharePoint list and open it on your phone.
1 Learn
Work through the modules in order and tick them off here. Microsoft Learn keeps track of your progress if you are signed in there.
2 Practise: Create the "Equipment loans" app
You do the exercise on a computer. If you are reading on your phone, take your progress along.
- Create a canvas app in Power Apps with the "Equipment loans" list as its data source.
- Make the gallery show device, "Borrowed by" and "Until".
- Give the app a clear name and save it.
- Open the app in the Power Apps mobile app on your phone and add an entry.
- Check in SharePoint that the entry arrived.
If you get stuck
- The list does not show up as a data source: choose "SharePoint", enter the address of the site, not of the list, and then pick the list.
- Your change is missing on the phone: if you changed something after the first save, select "Publish". Otherwise the phone shows the old version.
Done when an entry you added on your phone shows up in the SharePoint list.

3 Self-test
Answer each question in your head or on paper first, then open the answer. Recalling sticks better than rereading.
Where is your app's data stored?
In the SharePoint list. The app only shows and changes it.
What does a gallery show?
A list of records. Every item uses the same template.
Where do you write a formula?
In a property of a control, using the formula bar at the top, similar to Excel.
Why do you see a new entry from the app in SharePoint right away?
Because the app writes directly to the list. There is no copy of the data inside the app.
From week 1: why is "Status" a choice column and not a text field?
So that only the three values Requested, On loan and Returned occur. That way you can filter on it reliably later.
