How your mentoring works
This guide applies to mentees and Sensei once a match is accepted. It shows the process over 3 months, from the first two weeks to completion.
The first 2 weeks
- Kickoff of 30 minutes: the first 15 minutes are for getting to know each other. If it does not click, that is fine, and you can end cleanly instead of carrying on.
- After that, set the goal, make an if-then plan (if you get stuck at some point, what do you do then) and agree how you reach each other.
- Note these points briefly in writing, for example by email or chat. Template to copy below.
- Then a rhythm of 30 minutes every 2 weeks. At the end of each meeting, set the next date right away.
Template for the mini agreement
Goal: Rhythm: every 2 weeks, 30 minutes How we reach each other (channel and when): Confidentiality (what stays between us):
Halfway point after 6 weeks
Take a short moment: what is working, what should change?
Completion
- The mentee shows the result.
- Then both sides confirm «Confirm completion» in their account. Only then does each side receive a certificate.
For Sensei
- Explain instead of build: show how it works instead of building the mentee's solution yourself.
- Do not look at credentials or customer data.
- State honestly in the kickoff the time commitment you chose in your profile.
- Delete the mentee's contact details after the mentoring has ended.
- If you guide several mentees, give each mentee their own kickoff. Only use a small group if everyone involved agrees.
- Do not share one mentee's contact details with other mentees without asking first.
If it does not fit
- Bring it up openly early on, instead of letting it sit.
- Options: address it openly and adjust, take a break, or end it and send a new request through your account.
- No one is at fault if it does not fit.
- Either side can end mentoring at any time without giving a reason.
- Report problems in your account or to mentoring@ppugs.ch.
Guardrails
The same guardrails as everywhere in Dojo Mentoring apply here: no selling, no confidential data, respectful behaviour. All rules are on the rules page.
